How To Celebrate Happy Cat Month

Happy Healthy Cat Month is underway and we know that our feline furry family members are regal, sometimes aloof, loving, sophisticated and deserving of being celebrated for an entire month! At Magoos Pet we have a myriad of cat and kitten items from toys to beds to travel carriers, snacks, treats and everything in between! 

How will you and your family celebrate this month with and for your cat? If you're not sure, we have put together a list of wonderful ways to celebrate the feline in your life. 

Use any, or all (if your cat has his or her way!) and leave us a comment on our Facebook page as to how much your kitty loved it/them! 

• Adopt a cat or kitten. If you don't already have a cat or kitten in your life, visit the shelter or rescue and adopt a new cat. You will be saving that kitty's life and also opening up a space in the shelter for another cat or kitten who needs a place to stay until a forever home is found. 
• Snuggle your cat. Some cats love to be snuggled, others like it for a short time. You know your cat best and can read her signs on whether she's ready to stop the snuggle. 
• Spend time with your cat. It is a myth that cats thrive well alone and that they prefer to be alone. They don't. Cats are social animals and like having their humans -- or another cat -- with them. Your cat may not rush to greet you at the door (or maybe he will!) as your dog would, but they do like knowing their human is home. 
• Buy a new bed and put it in a warm, dark, high space. Cats love to sleep in cozy areas like closets or even on top of your warm refrigerator. Pay attention to where your cat sleeps the most and put a new bed there. You may want to sprinkle the new bed with a bit of catnip to get her interested in the bed. 
• Speaking of catnip... cats love it! If you're trying to train your kitty to scratch on a scratching post instead of the couch, sprinkle catnip on the scratching post and put your kitty next to it. If your cat scratches the couch, pick her up, put her by the catnip-sprinkled scratching post and let her scratch. 
• Replace the scratching post on occasion. Cats will scratch the post enough that it won't be as satisfying for their claws and their instinctual need to scratch. Does your cat like to scratch on a vertical or a horizontal scratcher or both? Indulge him and give him a variety of positions and scratching the material. 
• Do you travel with your cat? If so, make sure he is safely secured in a cat carrier and in the backseat for the trip. 
• New toys are always welcomed by your cats. Swap out toys they've used for a while, introduce new toys and keep their interest up! Cats need to be mentally and physically stimulated to stay healthy. 
• Ask your veterinarian what kind of cat food your cat should have and why. Consider buying the food your vet recommends as a way to keep your cat happy and healthy.
